In August this year, Vietnam's footwear industry fetched revenue of US $5.9 million from the Korean market, representing 42.2 and 56.9 percent growth from previous month and same period in 2006.
Most products enjoyed strong growth during this period including plastic sports shoes, which were exported for $2.26 million, showing a strong boost of 578.4 and 421.2 percent in both volume and value, respectively. However, in terms of prices there was a slump of 23.2 percent.
Other products which gained higher value are tanned leather sports shoes at 314.2 percent, sandal at 320.7 percent, plastic shoes at 793 percent.
Contrary to this, several other products witnessed drop including tennis and basketball shoes which demonstrated a plunge of 18.5 percent in volume and 11.9 percent in value.
However, for the first eight months, the tennis and basketball shoes earned the biggest exports turnover for the industry, generating around $10.35 million, representing a year–on–year rise of 51 percent, accounting for 30 percent of total footwear exports returns from Korea.
