Statistics of China Customs show a decline of 1.35 percent in textile exports in the first eight months of this year compared to the same last year. The export value for the period reached US $11.643 billion with a rise of 4.62 percent. Moreover, the average export price per meter also went up by 6.38 percent.
The average export price per meter was $0.79 for the year 2000, $0.83 for 2003, $0.96 for 2006 and finally one dollar for August this year. The trend shows a rise in the rate of Chinese fabric that has consequently slowed down the rate of export.
On the other hand the value of imported fabric has considerably increased in the past few years reaching $1.47 per meter. This has compelled Chinese fabric manufacturers to increase their levels of technology innovation, design and development of brands.
