According to the Brazil Shoe Industry Association, in the first 10 months of this year, the country imported 22.76 million pairs of shoes worth US $175.41 million, up 50 percent and 59.9 percent respectively, against the same period last year.
Of these, 19.15 million pairs of shoes were from China, accounting for 84 percent of total shoes imported by Brazil. Expert analyze that the appreciation of Brazilian Dollar is the reason behind this rise in imports.
The country exported 149.11 million pairs worth $1.61 billion. Although, export quantity for the shoes decreased by 1.6 percent, in the period between January to October, the average export price increased from $10.36 to $10.80 for each pair.
