Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, on 5th December, approved the target of US $9.5 billion for textile and apparel exports for the year 2008, with an expected growth of 22 percent.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, if such targets are obtained, the textile and apparel will be the largest foreign currency earners for the country in 2008.
In 2008, Vietnam is expected to increase its exports at three major markets, namely, to the US, with a forecasted turnover of $5.3-5.5 billion, around $1.6-1.8 billion at EU and $800 million at Japan.
The textile and apparel exports turnover of Vietnam in 2007 is reported to reach $7.8 billion, realizing a year–on–year growth of 30 percent.
