Oct recovers export shortfall

According to official sources from Vietnamese General Department of Customs, the month of October saw a strong recovery in exports after several months of declines. This is the result of special efforts put in by local enterprises to boost seasonal production and promote marketing accordingly.

The exports turnover in the tenth month fetched revenue of US $15.71 million, soaring around 239 percent compared to September and up 30.8 percent over same period last year. With these figures, country's turnover in the period from January to October reached $271.77 million, rendering a year–on–year rise of 39.92 percent.

Exports of textile and apparel products contributed to this growth, accounting for 2.35 percent of the total, rose by 0.72 percent against September 2007.

Export prices in October also hiked by 8.26 percent in comparison with previous month, quoted at $3.85 per piece, but suffered 18.15 percent drop compared to same period 2006.

Among all the clients, US stood at top with $10.44 million, up 256 percent over September and 70 percent over corresponding period 2006, accounting for 66.43 percent of total exports turnover in the period.

Other major buyers for the country are Canada, Italy and the Philippines.
