With the American economy crumbling, home-textile exporters from Thailand have diverted their focus towards other nations, so as to exploit these markets. The first countries they have chosen to ship their products are China, Japan.

According to statistics, the US is the biggest export market for Thailand home-textile products, accounting for 38 percent of the total shipments of the country during 1997 to 2006, with year-on-year growth of 16.3 percent.

However, in 2007, rise was only 2.4 percent. Experts predict that the growth rate in 2008 will be even lower.

Looking into the gloomy scenario, Thai home textile enterprises started searching for other export markets. China, with a huge populace and rising purchasing capacity has attracted the attention of these traders.

Besides, with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games approaching, Thai industry advisors opined that Chinese hotels will need a great deal of home-textile products, advising them to expand their exports in the region.
