In the first quarter of 2008, Ho Chi Minh city, the economic hub of Vietnam, has earned nearly US $5.1 billion from exports, representing a year-on-year boost of 26.8 percent.
Textile and garment products enjoyed the strongest growth among all exported items. A rise of 14 percent was marked, with turnover reaching almost $370 million, when compared to same period of last year.
The revenue from footwear exports also reached $80 million, increasing by 6.6 percent in comparison to 2007.
Another key product that witnessed a rise is, crude oil, with earnings reaching almost $3.43 million through exports, registering a growth of 11.5 percent.
On the other hand, during this period, a growth in imports was also observed for the Ho Chi Mihn City. The region expended near about $4.11 billion, showing a rise of 16.9 percent, compared to similar period last year.
