Trade value between Brazil and China in the first five months of 2008 reached US $12.9 billion.
Of the total, exports from Brazil to China was $5.7 billion, up by 51.9 percent while its imports from the latter amounted to $7.2 billion, up by 72.1 percent.
It was for the first time that China emerged as the second largest trading partner of Brazil replacing Argentina and followed the US which is at the first rank.
Brazil's trade with the US and Argentina stood at $19.5 billion and $12.3 billion respectively.
On the whole, total exports from Brazil with regard to all countries amounted to $72.054 billion, up by 22.2 percent. Imports on the other hand also surged to $63.399 billion hiking by 49.2 percent.
It is therefore quite evident that growth in imports far exceeded exports made by the country and this is largely because of depreciation of dollar and strong purchasing power of Brazilian customers.
