A large number of Italian enterprises have shown interest in making investment in Indonesia, after observing the economic progress it has made in recent times. The local Government is planning to amplify its exports by almost 12 percent by focusing more on shipment of machinery and various consumer products.
Although the revenue generated by shipping machinery to Indonesia account for only one percent of the total export earning, the nation is hopeful about rise in demand from Indonesian companies. The total Italian machinery exports to that country had risen to US $400 million.
Both the nations have been enjoying good trade relations for a long time. Total bilateral trade in 2007 reached almost $2.04 billion, out of which Indonesia's exports to Italy accounted for $1.38 billion.
Last year the nation mainly imported items like textile, footwear and furniture from Indonesia and shipped cosmetics, perfumes and chemical products.
Last year, according to available statistics, Italy had invested nearly $9.7 million in 17 new projects in indonesia and the number is expected to grow further.
