Textile & garment export to Taiwan on a rising trend

Vietnam earned nearly US $17.5 million of foreign currency through export of textile and garment to Taiwan in May 2008. This showcases a significant increase of 2.31 percent over April and 46 percent yearly, according to Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

In the first 5 months of this year, textile and clothing export turnover to Taiwan reached almost $77 million, a yearly rise of 14.29 percent.

Strong recovery is witnessed in exports of products like t-shirts, cloth, trousers and skirts. The t-shirt export to Taiwan increased by almost 97 percent in volume and nearly 105 percent in value over the same period of 2007.

Vietnam shipped approximately 1.9 million pieces of t-shirt and earned around $4.5 million. Exports witnessed the highest turnover in May as well as in the first 5 months of 2008, making up 25 percent of the total textile and apparel export earning.

From January to May, the country exported nearly 8.2 million pieces of t-shirts for nearly $18 million, a boost of 71.5 percent and 75.48 percent respectively. Export of trouser generated revenue worth almost 11.3 million, witnessing a considerable hike of 46 percent.

The shipment of fabric rose by 72 percent in value and reached almost $2.7 million, while trousers export soared up to 34 percent in volume and 32 percent in value. However, export of fabric and innerwear experienced a fall of 34 percent and 19 percent respectively in the first 5 months of 2008.
