According to figures released by Customs, China's total exports of combed wool yarn reached 1700.82 tons in September 2008, down 292.17 tons from August, or a reduction of 14.66 percent and less 526.08 tons than September 2007, a year-on-year decline of 13.12 percent.

Exports of combed wool yarn brought in US $32.85 million in September, down $2.88 million or 8.08 percent from the previous month but despite a significant reduction in export volumes from the same period last year, export value still improved year on year as they grew by $3.97 million, or 13.7 percent, from September 2007 due to better price realization.

The average export price in September was $19.32 per kilogram, 7.69 percent higher than $17.94 per kilogram in August, and 48.96 percent over the price level in September 2007.

In the first three quarters, China's exports of combed wool yarn registered 22679.59 tons in total, a decrease of 4647.39 tons or 17.01 percent year-on-year while export value on the other hand reached $397 million, an increase of 6.09 percent year-on-year in comparison to the same period in 2007.

Average export price in the same period stood at $17.51, up by $3.82 from $13.69 at the same time last year, representing a year-on-year increase of 27.9 percent.
