Sewing thread imports surge in 2008

A statistical report released by Vietnamese MOIT, shows that, in 2008 the country spent US $55.1 million on importing sewing thread for local textile and garment production in 2008, and in the process the growth rate rose by 8 percent over that in 2007.

Among all suppliers during the year, Korea remained the biggest one, by exporting $18.1 million worth of sewing thread and accounting for 32 percent of all sewing thread imports made by Vietnam.

Sewing thread imports from Japan fell by 18 percent y-o-y to reach $10 million while imports from China rose by 40 percent to touch $11 million. It imports various varieties of sewing threads like polyester, elastic, filament and thread for embroidery.
