Guangdong still ranks first in foreign trade amongst all provinces

According to data released by Customs, China's import and export value registered US $162.02 billion in March, a year-on-year decline of 20.9 percent, the decline showing signs of slowing down when compared with the previous two months.

Of this, exports reached $90.29 billion, down 17.1 percent year-on-year and imports touched $71.73 billion, down 25.1 percent year-on-year while March trade surplus read $18.56 billion, an increase of 41.2 percent year-on-year.

First quarter exports and imports from Guangdong Province realized $115.48 billion, representing a decline of 23.1 percent from the same time last year and accounted for 26.9 percent of total value of national imports and exports.

Guangdong's March import and export value marked $44.79 billion, down 18.2 percent, the negative growth narrowing by 12.9 percent and 1 percent from that in January and February, respectively.

It still ranks first among provinces and cities in the country in total amount of exports and imports from the country and has realized a foreign trade surplus of $26.24 billion in the first quarter of 2009.
