An Australian textile manufacturing company has raised objections to a decision of the government to import fabric for furnishing new train compartments and says that, in the process, it overlooks the interests of local manufacturers.
The fabric in question is called 'Mosquette', which is not manufactured in the country and has to be imported from foreign countries, but the company contends by saying that the specialised fabric manufactured by it was used for new trains in Sydney.
The company says that the fabric manufactured by it is cheaper than that is imported and has asked the government to also consider the implications of this decision on the local wool and textile industry in particular.
The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) has also supported the call of the company and urged the state government to adopt a stronger policy of selecting Australian vendors, vis-à-vis, overseas ones.
