Silk exports & imports dive

According to Chinese Customs statistics, in the first six months of 2009, China's exports of silk textiles and apparel reached US $1.24 billion, down 15.29 percent year-on-year, accounting for 1.66 percent of total textile and apparel exports.

Of which, exports of silk textiles registered $506 million, down 7.78 percent year-on-year, while shipments of silk clothing scored $735 million, down 19.78 percent year-on-year.

On import side, from January to June of 2009, China's imports of silk textiles and apparel totaled $80 million, down 3.48 percent year-on-year, accounting for 1.02 percent of China's total imports of textiles and clothing ($7.808 billion).

Amongst which, total imports of silk textiles realized $47 million, a reduction of 5.68 percent year-on-year and imports of silk clothing fetched $32 million, a reduction of 0.07 percent year-on-year.
