The textile industry in Turkey ended 2009 with a contraction of around 25 percent in 2009, but the silver lining in the dark clouds were shipments to Russia which grew by a staggering 169 percent.

The industry's exports to Russia skyrocketed in 2009, making the country Turkey's sixth-largest customer. Exports of textiles to Russia totaled to $4 million in 2009.

Amongst other countries, Germany kept its lead as Turkey's biggest textile importer in 2009, with imports from the sector amounting to almost $19 million last year. France came second with textile shipments touching $8.5 million.
