Chinese cotton imports shoot up in August

China's cotton imports reached 240,000 tons in August, an increase of 130,000 tons or 118.9 percent year on year, and an increase of 71,000 tons, or 42 percent from the previous month, according to customs statistics.

China imported 1.952 million tons cotton in total from January to August this year, an increase of 976,000 tons or 100 percent year on year.

In the 2009-10 cotton year (Sept 2009 – Aug 2010), China's total cotton imports registered 2.505 million tons, an increase of 1.058 million tons or 73.1 percent year on year.
