With an objective to seize and destroy all pirated fabrics in Ghana, textile companies in the country have created a network in association with the security agencies.
Under the measure, around 300 pieces of pirated fabrics confiscated from markets and warehouses were burnt recently and the remaining fabrics will be destroyed during the current month.
Almost 1,000 pieces of the pirated designs have been seized by the textile companies with the help of the Ghana Police Service and Customs, Excise and Preventive Service. These pieces will be destroyed in steps.
Over 3,000 textile workers could loose their job if textile piracy is not monitored. In this regard, textile workers and dealers should be observant to impede such an unscrupulous practice, stated an expert.
Textile piracy had rendered over 20,000 workers without job, a few years back. Therefore, it is necessary to combat such a bad practice. Textile piracy is flooding Ghanaian market with cheap and low quality fabrics, threatening the high quality textiles manufactured by the companies in Ghana, added the expert.
