India has stopped the online registration process for export of cotton after it had received applications, equivalent to the predetermined exportable cap of 5.5 million cotton bales.

The government has permitted cotton exports up to 5.5 million bales for the marketing season 2010-11. The registration for cotton exports for the current season started on 1st October. It has been further added that the registration process may restart if excess cotton which can be exported is available.

Cotton yield is expected to increase up to 35 million bales in 2010-11, much higher than the projected estimate of 32.5 million bales.
