Price flare-up takes toll of Oct cotton imports

China's cotton imports registered 96,000 tons in October, 100,000 tons or 52 percent less than September and also down 19 percent from a year earlier, according to customs statistics.

The average import price touched US $2131 per ton, up $69 or 3.3 percent from September. The proportion of US cotton declined to less than 30 percent in China's cotton imports.

China's total cotton imports came to 2.25 million ton from January-October 2010, an increase of 88 percent year on year.
