On an average, Angola imports fabric and clothing worth US $500 million by sea, on a yearly basis.

The Angolan government has made investments in renewing the textile as well as cloth-making firms so that import of fabric and clothing from overseas nations can be replaced with the textile products manufactured within the country.

Several medium-term activities like revamping the textile companies such as África Têxtil (in Benguela), Textang (in Luanda) and Satec (in Dondo, Kwanza Norte) and several other similar activities in agriculture like cotton production for the textile industry has been taken up by the government.

The revival of the textile industry as well as its full-fledged operation would provide employment to thousands of people and contribute towards generation of both direct and indirect jobs.

Agriculture is expected to generate the highest number of jobs by means of cotton production which would in turn limit the necessity to import the raw materials which are used by textile units.
