Crisis compels Egypt to halt textile imports from Indonesia

In view of the continued political unrest in the country, Egypt has decided to stop importing some of the textile goods from Indonesia, for the time being.

Importers from Egypt, particularly those dealing in Indonesian sarongs would halt their imports from Indonesia till the law and order situation in the country recovers. Next to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt ranks second in importing sarongs from Indonesia.

Further that, Cairo along with some other cities has halted its imports whereas the businesses in Alexandria are running normally.

Indonesia, last year exported US $200 million worth of textiles to Egypt. But owing to the instability prevailing in the country which do not seem improving as of now, it is being doubted if Indonesia would be able to fulfil its textile export target set for exports to Egypt, this year.
