Textiles and apparel exporters of Romania find it difficult to compete with Indian and Chinese suppliers. As a result, textiles and apparel exports from Romania to European Union dropped placing Romania at the fourth largest supplier position to the EU.
Exports from India, China and Turkey have by far exceeded Romanian's. Bangladesh is also emerging as a bigger supplier of textiles and apparel than Romania and may push Romania further down to fifth position.
From January to September, total exports of Romanian textile and apparel to European Union registered fall of 6.5 percent to 2.997 million euros.
So far, Romania has been very attractive destination for European textile groups who seek investment.
However, Romanian textiles are facing a stiff competition from Chinese and Indian products. Indian exporters have the advatage of relatively cheap cotton prices which is home grown.
