The Pakistani government will request India to drop its opposition to the trade concession package approved by the European Union.

The concession provides duty free access to around 75 products, most of them from the textile sector.

India had opposed the package on the grounds that, EU should provide humanitarian aid rather than duty concessions.

Vietnam, Peru and Bangladesh are among the other countries who have opposed the package which has 64 products from the textile and the value-added sector.

The commerce secretary of Pakistan Mr Zafar Mehmood is meeting his Indian counterpart Mr Rahul Khullar on Wednesday.

The concession, which has met opposition from within the EU members and outside, also needs clearance from the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
