Iran has fixed a target of exporting carpets and handicrafts worth one billion dollars during the current calendar year which commenced on March 21, 2011.
Handmade carpets exports from the country increased by 12 percent to $557 million during the just concluded fiscal year, over its previous year.
Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Lebanon and UAE were Iran's main carpet export destinations during last year, while others countries like Canada, UK, Qatar, Sweden and Switzerland too imported significantly.
The country last year exported $72 million worth of handmade carpets to new markets like South Africa, China, Brazil and Kazakhstan.
