Textile exporters now vie in local markets

Indonesian textile and clothing exporters are shifting their attention to the domestic markets, on the back of a strengthening of the rupiah.

The gain of the rupiah against the dollar has impacted the profits of these exporters.

There has been a surge in local consumer demand in recent days and exporters are taking advantage of the same, by supplying to the local markets.

Earlier exporters, who exported around 70-80 percent of their revenue, now ship just 50 percent, as the returns from the local market are more attractive.

The period between May and July is considered peak production time in the local markets.
