Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports increased by 10.60 per cent to $10.770 billion in the first seven months of fiscal 2024–25 (FY25 - July–June), according to data from the country’s Ministry of Commerce. The upward trend in textile exports indicates rising demand in the global market.

The textile and apparel sector contributed 54.99 per cent to Pakistan’s total exports of $19.584 billion during July 2024–January 2025, slightly up from its 54.78 per cent share in the same period of fiscal 2023–24.

By category, knitwear exports rose by 18.16 per cent year-on-year to $3,033.95 million, while exports of non-knit readymade garments (RMG) increased by 21.90 per cent to $2,441.30 million. Cotton yarn exports declined by 35.77 per cent to $430.23 million, whereas cotton fabric exports rose by 3.99 per cent to $1,129.73 million. Bedwear exports grew by 14.71 per cent to $1,858.89 million.

On the import front, synthetic fibre imports fell by 1.32 per cent year-on-year to $283.14 million. However, imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn increased by 12.13 per cent to $409.33 million. Notably, Pakistan’s imports of textile machinery surged by 60.36 per cent year-on-year to $128.10 million during July 2024–January 2025, signalling a revival of new investments in the sector.

In fiscal 2023–24, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports edged up by 0.93 per cent to $16.655 billion. In contrast, exports had declined by 14.63 per cent to $16.501 billion in fiscal 2022–23, compared to $19.329 billion in fiscal 2021–22.
