Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports increased by 9.67 per cent to $9.048 billion in the first six months of fiscal 2024-25 (FY25) (July-June), according to data from the country’s Ministry of Commerce. The upward trend in textile exports indicates higher demand in the global market.

The textile and apparel sector contributed 54.60 per cent to Pakistan’s total exports of $16.639 billion in July-December 2024, down from its 55.28 per cent share in the same period of fiscal 2023-24.

In terms of categories, knitwear exports increased by 16.49 per cent year-on-year to $2,565.64 million, while exports of non-knit readymade garments (RMG) rose by 22.48 per cent to $2,044.42 million. Cotton yarn exports declined by 37.96 per cent to $365.13 million, whereas cotton fabric exports increased by 4.10 per cent to $964.66 million. Bedwear exports grew by 14.75 per cent to $1,580.20 million.

Regarding imports, synthetic fibre imports decreased by 3.67 per cent year-on-year to $225.93 million. Imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose by 9.86 per cent to $340.98 million. However, Pakistan’s imports of textile machinery in July-December 2024 surged by 53.90 per cent year-on-year to $105.90 million, indicating a revival of new investments in the sector.

In fiscal 2023-24, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports edged up by 0.93 per cent to $16.655 billion. In contrast, exports in fiscal 2022-23 had declined by 14.63 per cent to $16.501 billion, compared to $19.329 billion in fiscal 2021-22.
