Pakistan textile exports up 2.30% in July-August FY20

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 2.30 per cent in dollar terms in first two months of fiscal 2019-2020, compared to the same months of 2018-2019. During the period, Pakistan earned $2.303 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $2.251 billion in fiscal 2018-19, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 12.84 per cent year-on-year to $541.484 million during the first two month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 7.47 per cent to $467.484 million.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $8.299 million during the period under review, showing an increase of 152.33 per cent compared to exports of $3.289 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.

Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 7.76 per cent and fetched $206.757 million, as against exports of $224.149 million made during first two months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric decreased by 6.35 per cent and were valued at $324.758 million during the first two months of fiscal 2019-20, while bedwear exports increased by 1.22 per cent to $399.994 million, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 2.76 per cent to $89.818 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk were down by 30.12 per cent to $72.728 million year-on-year. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 17.28 per cent year-on-year to $81.902 million during the period under review.

In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion from $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
