Romania and Turkiye aim to reach $15 billion in bilateral trade volume, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said while meeting the former’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in Ankara yesterday.

Bilateral trade volume between the two sides exceeded $10 billion for two consecutive years, he told a joint news conference.

Through the joint declaration signed yesterday, the president said he and Ciolacu established a Turkiye-Romania High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

The Turkish industry and technology ministry and the Romanian economy and tourism ministry also signed a memorandum of understanding on small and medium enterprise support. This was part of six agreements signed in all.

The first meeting of the mechanism also discussed improving energy collaboration, he was cited as saying by Turkish media reports.

Vice president Cevdet Yilmaz said last month that Turkiye’s direct investments in Romania reached $7.5 billion.
