During this period, apparel imports rose by 2.57 per cent to 19,334.285 million SME, up from 18,850.018 million SME from January to September 2023. Imports of textile (non-apparel) products reached 57,526.517 million SME from January to September 2024, marking an 11.05 per cent increase compared to 51,802.980 million SME during the same period in the previous year.
The import volume of cotton products increased by 6.03 per cent to 12,693.563 million SME during the review period, compared with 11,971.871 million SME for the same period in the prior year. Imports of man-made fibre (MMF) products reached 62,361.158 million SME from January to September 2024, up from 57,124.531 million SME during the same period in 2023, as reported by OTEXA.
Meanwhile, US exports of textiles and apparel made from all types of fibres fell by 3.11 per cent to 1,630.498 million kg during the review period, compared with 1,682.864 million kg from January to September 2023. Apparel exports decreased by 4.48 per cent to 505.279 million kg. Yarn exports were recorded at 658.462 million kg, showing a 1.78 per cent decline compared to the same period in 2023, while fabric exports increased by 0.40 per cent to 550.963 million kg.
US textile exports continued their volatile downward trend in the first nine months of 2024, as foreign buyers remained cautious about textile imports.
In 2023, the US experienced a 12.28 per cent decline in the volume of textile and apparel imports across all types of fibres, with total imports amounting to 92,783.4 million SME.
