US trade deficit rises to $91.2 bn in July 2023

US’ international trade deficit was $91.2 billion in July 2023, up $2.3 billion from $88.8 billion in June. Exports of goods for July were $164.8 billion, $2.4 billion more than June exports. Imports of goods for July were $256.0 billion, $4.7 billion more than June imports.

Wholesale inventories for July, adjusted for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were estimated at an end-of-month level of $903.1 billion, down 0.1 per cent (±0.2 per cent) from June 2023, and were up 0.5 per cent (±1.1 per cent) from July 2022. The May 2023 to June 2023 percentage change was revised from down 0.5 per cent (±0.2 per cent) to down 0.7 per cent (±0.2 per cent), the US Census Bureau said in a press release.

Retail inventories for July, adjusted for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were estimated at an end-of-month level of $784.1 billion, up 0.3 per cent (±0.2 per cent) from June 2023, and were up 4.5 per cent (±0.7 per cent) from July 2022. The May 2023 to June 2023 percentage change was revised from up 0.7 per cent (±0.2 per cent) to up 0.5 per cent (±0.2 per cent).
