Last year, Vietnam imported 28.836 million kg of fabric worth $295.681 million. Earlier, the imports were 31.412 million kg ($279.871 million) in 2021, 27.205 million kg ($247.661 million) in 2020, and 28.761 million kg ($276.876 million) in 2019, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool, TexPro.
During the first five months of 2023, Vietnam's fabric exports were 9.894 million kg, valued at $55.965 million. These figures were noted at 23.624 million kg ($135.911 million) in 2022, 29.613 million kg ($157.388 million) in 2021, 27.882 million kg ($119.190 million) in 2020, and 29.244 million kg ($122.455 million) in 2019.
Additionally, Vietnam exports apparel to Thailand, which holds significant value. From January to May 2023, Vietnam's apparel exports to Thailand were worth $49.084 million. These were valued at $112.517 million in 2022, $76.010 million in 2021, $88.385 million in 2020, and $121.959 million in 2019, as per TexPro.
On the other hand, imports have remained negligible, annually not exceeding $20 million over the past four years.
