The border gate joins Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province and Cambodia’s Prey Veng province.
The opening represents a strategic step toward completing the system of border-gate infrastructure, logistics networks and cross-border transport connectivity between both sides, a Vietnamese media outlet reported.
The aim is to cultivate the site into a future regional transit hub linking member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through the regional road network.
The border gate is expected to generate jobs in the adjoining provinces and neighbouring localities, and contribute to more effective border management.
Average annual bilateral trade turnover in recent years has been around $10 billion, and is set to reach $12 billion in 2025.
The Cambodian Prime Minister urged relevant ministries and agencies from both sides to intensify exchanges at the border gate and include it in the list of border crossings eligible under the Agreement on Transit of Goods and to incorporate it into the protocol implementing the Agreement on Road Transport.
