The volume of container cargo going through Vietnamese seaports reached about 8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the period, up by 2 per cent year on year. VMA noted that in April alone, the volume of cargo through seaports totalled 59 million tonnes, up by 3 per cent. Container cargo hit some 2 million TEUs, a hike of 2 per cent from 2020.
As for China, close to 8.15 billion tonnes of road cargo was transported in the first quarter of this year, recording a rise of 0.4 per cent from last year. Water freight volume went up by 5.2 per cent YoY to reach 1.93 billion tonnes in Q1 of this year, Chinese media reports quoted the ministry as saying.
