The China-Europe freight train ‘Shanghai Express’ has carried cargo exceeding 1 billion yuan via its 35 trains during January-July 2022. The freight train service has launched six trains in July alone, statistics from China’s General Administration of Customs revealed.

In July month alone, the ‘Shanghai Express’ transported 600 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of inbound and outbound containers, which weighed more than 4,500 tons and were valued at almost 200 million yuan.

The international express train service now touches 13 cities in five countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The first Shanghai Express train was launched in September 2021.

Recently, Shanghai had introduced its first China-Europe freight train headed for Central Asia, which carried more than 980 tons of goods.
