A charter train loaded with 1,440 tonnes of cotton yarn produced in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) left for Foshan in the Guangdong province in the south on February 11. This marked the launch of a fast logistics track connecting the cotton production base with the industrial hub. The service shortens the time to cover 5,000 km by four days.

As the cotton yarn market is favourable this year, with strong demand, the train service for cotton yarn is scheduled once a month on regular basis, Ma Zhimin, who works with the Kashgar freight transport centre of China Railway Urumqi Bureau Group Co Ltd, told a news agency.

As of February 10 this year, 36,400 tonnes of cotton yarn have been transported via railway from Xinjiang's cotton production bases of Kashgar and Aksu, a year-on-year rise of 20.02 per cent, Ma added.
