China’s logistics market is showing signs of getting back on its feet after a lull due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The index reflecting the country's logistics market performance was at 52.1 per cent in June, which is above the boom-bust of 50 per cent for the first time since remaining in the contraction zone for three months, as per the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP).

The logistics delivery’s capacity and productivity kept developing even as the sub-indices for business volume, new orders, capital turnover, and employees—all showed marked rebounds. China’s ministry of transport has led efforts by government authorities to speed up actions taken to address blocks in logistics to assist the economy in recovering from the impact of COVID-19.

The pick-up in logistics activities can be attributed to increasing demands from both the industrial and consumption fronts, Chinese media reports said quoting Hu Han, a researcher at the China Logistics Information Center.

Consumption-related logistics also showed improved performance. China’s e-commerce logistics activities helped reinforce its return in June with a related CLPF index going up to 2.8 per cent over May.

Industrial goods logistics marked a 0.7 per cent year-on-year growth in May as compared to a drop of 2.9 per cent in April, as per the latest data by CFLP.
