Heads of Bangladesh’s courier and logistics services sector have urged the government to make the ‘Mailing Operator and Courier Service Development and Regulatory Authority Act-2022’ more business-friendly at the second meeting of the standing committee on the logistics and courier services recently. The leaders also called upon the authorities to designate the courier and logistics sector as a service industry.

The event was held at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) bhaban in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital. “The committee will soon prepare its recommendation for the amendment of the draft law,” said Md Naser, director in-charge of the committee.

“Future expansion of the country's economy largely depends on logistics as the sector builds up on a sustainable supply chain.  Without an effective logistics ecosystem, even attaining food security is impossible,” said FBCCI president Jashim Uddin.

“Courier and logistics companies would be able to contribute more to the national economy if the government provides proper policy and legal support,” said Hafizur Rahman Pulok, chairman of the committee and president of the Courier Services Association of Bangladesh.
