Operations at Bangladesh’s Bhomra Land Port have been stopped due to a shutdown of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and a ‘March to NBR’ programme announced by protesting workers.

The closure was part of the shutdown, which began on June 28, affecting all customs and tax-related activities at the port and other customs houses nationwide.

Over 550 trucks, waiting for import-export activities at Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira and Gojadanga Land Port in India for the last few days, are stuck in both the countries.

Nearly 20,000 people who relied on Bhomra Land Port for their livelihoods have demanded a quick resolution of the issue, according to domestic media reports.

The Bhomra C&F Agent Association urged authorities to end the stalemate at the port.
