Saudi Arabia recently announced plans to set up 59 logistics zones by 2030 and to boost its port capacity to more than 40 million containers.

At an event in London hosted by Saudi Transport General Authority, deputy minister of transport and logistic services and acting chairman of the authority Rumaih Al Rumaih said the kingdom aims to be among the top ten countries in the logistics performance index by 2030.

“We’ve made substantial strides in enhancing the marine environment, and we are pleased to be fostering collaborations with the IMO [International Maritime Organisation] and its member states on initiatives that bolster climate action and cooperation among seafarers,” he was quoted as saying by Saudi media reports.

The kingdom will host the Maritime Industry Sustainability Conference in September first week this year with the theme ‘Innovation for a Greener Future’, the deputy minister added.
