Kerala is on the verge of exploiting export revenues by drawing new projects with special focus on value addition of its products and services.
The State government has begun steps for setting up two product-specific special economic zones (SEZ), one for textiles at Kanjikode in Palakkad district and for gems and jewelry at Kalamassery.
A proposal is under consideration by a private player for setting up a multi-product SEZ at Kasarkode.
The government was actively considering the project for recommendation to the commerce ministry.
Kerala has received approval for six SEZs, including three product specific SEZs of Kerala Infrastructure Development Authority (KINFRA) in the sectors of animation and gaming, electronics and food processing.
The ministry has approved three proposals for SEZs at Info Park Kochi, Technopark at Thiruvananthapuram and a port-based SEZ at Kochi Port.
