As the US online buying reached $25 billion this holidays season, electronics and clothing topped the items preferred by online buyers.

A Goldman, Sachs & Co, Nielsen/NetRatings and Harris Interactive for the Holiday eSpending Report indicates that clothing topped the online buyers choice while clubbing computers and consumer electronics together, ensured the latter two to top and corner 28 percent of the online spend at $3.75 billion and $3.67 billion, respectively.

The study was conducted covering 1000 adults and clearly notes that online buying is more preferred and they are comfortable with.

While apparel buying gained momentum through online transactions, large format online retailers and departmental stores like Macy's, Wal-Mart and Sears, besides famous brands like GAP and Eddie Bauer rode on this trend successfully.

Not to lag behind, but rather leading from the front, were reputed search engines like Google (40 percent preference), Yahoo (20.9 percent) and online selling websites like Amazon (25.1 percent) and ebay (23.4 percent in preference) that fired the imagination of online buyers helping them sift through mounds of online information about apparel, textiles, fashions, footwear, accessories, toys, gifts and the sundry.
