Turkey has been facing massive decline in clothing output for the last 30 years, according to Aynur Bektas, head of Turkish Clothing Manufacturers' Association (TCMA).

She also indicted that government was taking more care of foreign investors at the cost of local investors.

She said foreign competition increased in the domestic market, the rate of profitability went down, and capital accumulation and investments were thinning out.

She sought immediate action from the government to introduce reforms and support local manufacturers.

This year, ready-to-wear production stood at 12.5 percent of the total textile industry during January-October 2005 period, informed Bektas.

A drop of 10 percent was registered in local demand and sales during January-November 2005 period.
