Indo-Italian trade needed to achieve the mark of $5 billion by 2007, Kamal Nath, Commerce and Industry Minister, said at the 16th session of the Indo-Italian joint commission for economic cooperation in New Delhi in 2005.
In 2006, Nath and Dr Adolfo Urso, Deputy Minister for Productive Activities and Foreign Trade, Italy, release a task force report on cooperation in fashion, design and lifestyle products.
This development evinces a positive change in bilateral trade, which will help earning about $10 million within three years, says Carlo Calenda, assistant to the President Confindustria, Italy.
In fashion arena, Italy would organize a series of events wherein fashion designers, artisan and entrepreneurs would show their talent in several workshops, promised Calenda.
In terms of retail segment, Carlos kept mum over Italian ventures in the Indian market; however, he was hopeful about the opening of a shop owned by a premium tailoring-suit company from Italy.
Talking about luxury goods, retail would excel in 2006 and by joining hands with hi-end Indian companies, Italy was sure to shine in Indian markets, assured Carlos.
