A memorandum demanding economic aid for the weavers scheme in Belgaum was tendered by the North Karnataka Modern Weavers Association to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
A communique announced that a unit with advanced technology power looms, launched by a group of 15 weavers, was operating under severe fiscal crisis amplifying that the government had not provided any assistance to begin the unit.
Weavers would either get their units sealed by authorities or may shift operations to adjacent state where the government offers power at Rs 1.25 per unit besides financial and technical support.
It requested the government to instruct the textile department to provide such amenities and proposals for encouraging the weavers who were forced to give up the profession due to heavy losses.
