An Iranian delegation was in Ethiopia on a business visit and to find investment alternatives available in that country.

The delegation was informed that the government had identified textile and garments, leather and leather products, horticulture, floriculture, agro-processing and livestock as priority areas for which incentive schemes are set.

Director General of Ethiopian Investment Agency, offered Iranian investors to engage in the areas of agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, manufacturing and tourism, amongst others.

It was also elaborated in the meeting that the stable political climate, stable macroeconomic conditions, suitable agro-climatic conditions and fertile soil, abundant and easily trainable labour force makes Ethiopia a preferable destination for investors.

Discussions were made regarding availability of wide local and regional markets such as the COMESA, AGOA and EBA; the country's strategic location and its proximity to Europe and the Middle East, would give investors wider market opportunities.

Mohamedreza Faghihi, International Affairs Protocol Chief of Iran Chamber of Commerce Industries, who is also delegation head, stated Iran and Ethiopia have a variety of investment openings that they need to develop.

He said Iranian investors have all the capacity and the technology needed in various fields including manufacturing of various machineries, agro- processing industries, irrigation, dam construction and water shade management and green house building.
