To maintain the dominance of country's jewelry sector, it has to comply with international trends, according to President of the Guyana National Association of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Dominic Gaskin.
He also emphasized to establish more manufacturing facilities to boost exports; moreover, he pointed out lack of local refining facilities as one of the major blocks to increased jewelry production
Country's 50 percent gold jewelry caters mainly to visitors but it has not strong presence in international market, Gaskin stated.
Local jewelers have to source gold from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) and from this year GGMC has made refined gold available to local players.
