Indian textile & clothing share 4 & 2.8% of world market

As per the latest available WTO data, India's share in the world textile and clothing trade during the year 2004 is 4 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively.

There has been a significant increase in India's textiles and clothing exports after the dismantling of quota regime with effect from January 01, 2005.

As per provisional DGCI&S data, India's textiles and clothing exports have amounted to US$ 17.08 billion during the year 2005-06, recording a growth of 21.7 per cent over the exports during the year 2004-05.

India's textiles and clothing exports to USA and the Member States of European Union, which together account for about two-third of India's total textiles and clothing exports, have recorded a growth of 26 per cent and 18 per cent respectively in the year 2005 over 2004, as per World Trade Atlas data.

This information was given by Minister of State for Textiles, Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan in a written reply to a question by Shri Asaduddin Owaisi, in Lok Sabha today.
