Foreign brands like Benetton, Louis Vuitton and Lladro would rather sell through their own stores than through Indian franchisees.
Ever since the government allowed single brand as a first step towards opening up the retail space to international players like Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Tesco six months ago, the government has received eight more applications.
Only once case of Moja Shoes, which tied up with Tano India for selling Nike footwear and apparel, has been approved while a proposal from Sikora Aktiengesellschaft for retailing of measuring and control technology has been rejected.
The other awaiting applicants include Louis Vuitton Malletier, Fendi, La Moda fashions etc.
